With increased investments in local R&D and manufacturing, NIVEA is on the path towards strengthening its position in India. The renowned skin-care brand gives flight to their ‘Make in India’ commitment by launching yet another India specific product, this time in the face cleansing category, from the local factory
A high-ranking member team including Dr. Jürgen Morhard,Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Smt. D Thara, IAS Hon.Vice Chairman & Managing Director, GIDC, Ramon Mirt, Executive Board Member, Beiersdorf AG, Parmeshwaran Iyer, VP Supply Chain Near East region, Beiersdorf were present at the occasion of the phase 2 expansion.
This state-of-the-art production center follows the German major’s first plant that was launched in 2015, with its continued focus on innovations for the Indian consumer needs. The plantwill help the consumers gain greater access to the brand and higher value benefits, through new concepts and solutions, new packaging formats, competitive prices etc.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ramon Mirt, Member of the Executive Board of Beiersdorf AG (Near East & Americas regions) said, “NIVEA’s accelerated growth in India with its Top 3 Leadership Position in the skincare category, is fuelled by our own manufacturing and R&D base in the country. India is one of the fastest growing regions for Beiersdorf and has contributed double digit growth to the global portfolio consistently. We are confident that the brand will be placed in a leadership position in the next 3-4 years and emerge as one of the major growth drivers for us globally.”

Since its opening in 2015, NIVEA Body Care, NIVEA Men, NIVEA Creams, NIVEA Face Washes are being manufactured at the production center. NIVEA Aloe Body Lotion and Milk Delights face wash, are two of the locally produced, major innovations that have emerged out of the India R&D center.
NIVEA made its entry in the face wash segment in India by launching ‘NIVEA Milk Delights®’.The German major developed a customized solution for the Indian consumer’s skincare needs with ‘real goodness of milk for healthy looking skin’. In combination with ‘Milk’ there are four variants using Rose, Gram flour, Saffron and Honey, which are inspired from the traditional Indian home remedies. An outcome of extensive research, of different Indian skin types, local home remedies and healthy skin understanding, NIVEA’s approach towards its face wash range is set to revolutionize the category.
The Beiersdorf Manufacturing Unit in Gujarat was the first modular plant that the company planned and built. This new extension followed similar ‘plug & produce’ approach.
USGBC LEED Gold & IGBC certified Plant - The factory is a ZERO Liquid discharge facility and treated water of WWTP is used for gardening. Rain Water Harvesting, Solar Lights, Solar Tubes, Drip Irrigation are among the many innovative engineering initiatives that have been undertaken to reduce carbon footprints. The plant has a capacity of 240 Mn units.
While the factory is only supposed to cater to domestic demand, the brand is willing and equipped to cater internationally and truly promote the ‘Make in India’ vision.
