What are
bunny lines?
7 Causes of
bunny lines
- Loss of Collagen and Elastin:
As you get older, your skin produces less of these two substances. Collagen is naturally produced by your body and provides structure, strength and support. So the less Collagen you have, the more your skin is sensitive to gravity, which can make your bunny lines more visible.
- Natural facial expressions:
Over time, normal facial expressions like talking and smiling can emphasise bunny lines. This is because your facial muscles contract as you scrunch your nose when you laugh, creating creases. Since you lose skin elasticity as you age, your skin does not bounce back completely when you relax your face, and these creases can deepen.
- Sun exposure:
As with most wrinkles, exposure to the sun can cause bunny lines to develop, especially if you don’t use SPF regularly. UV rays directly damage Collagen and elastin production, which, as you read above, encourages the formation of bunny lines on your face.
- Tobacco:
Smoking can lead to bunny lines because it increases the breakdown of Collagen and elastin and physically tenses the muscles around your lips.
- Lack of skin care:
The ageing process can speed up if you don’t include anti-ageing products in your daily skincare routine. Without them, you won’t be topping up the skin-nourishing ingredients that your body naturally produces less of over time.
- An unhealthy diet:
If your diet isn’t balanced, it can also accelerate the skin-ageing process because your body may not be getting enough vitamins such as Vitamin A, which supports Collagen production.
- Dehydration:
Dehydration impacts the overall appearance of your skin. You might notice this as dark circles under your eyes, itchiness, dull-looking skin and more sensitive, noticeable wrinkles.
Bunny line
prevention routine:
- Apply a skin-firming product such as the NIVEA Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Targeted Filler Serum on your face, sweep your fingers down to the bridge of your nose and then continue under your eyes.
- Place your fingers on your cheekbones and sweep them outwards, then repeat the same movement just under your cheekbones.
You can repeat these movements every day during your skincare routine, for about 5 minutes.
